Dark Skies: Accept No Imitations!

That was quite a flurry of activity that got started when I posted the oh-so-familiar artwork of "The Path to 9/11" in a side-by-side comparison with the NBC series "Dark Skies" that I co-created a decade ago. Like this...

By the time the smoke cleared, that image had ended up on dozens of blogs, but the three big "gets" were:

  1. Defamer
  2. Salon
  3. The Huffington Post

Here's my explanation. First, the eyes-peeking-through-the-flag imagery is quite compelling and everybody with a blog is looking for something to draw their readers in. Second, the side-by-side was not only a visual stunner, but it promised intrigue to come. Third, it played into the script that most bloggers wanted to promote which was that "The Path to 9/11" was a sleazy attempt to bend the truth for ratings or political agenda. So the bloggers used it to further bludgeon "The Path to 9/11."

I can't find a copy of it to put up here, but Ted Koppel's Discovery Channel special "The Price of Security" also used the eyes peeking through the flag motif. Very popular imagery.

My friend, Nancy Tokos, however, was inspired by the sheer humor of the whole situation. She, as FWIW readers know, is the Digital Diva from London who has designed this blog bannner you see above (and also the one on Movie Smackdown!). Anyway, the day after all this madness, Nancy sent me this:

Darkskies

No, folks, it's not for real and it's not going up on FWIW. If anybody's eyes are going to be peeking through an American flag around here, those eyes are going to belong to a diminuitive foot-soldier from a carniverous extra-terrrestrial Hive.

The eyes definitely have it, don't you think?
