Winter in Los Angeles: Let It Hail!

In all the years I've lived in Los Angeles, I've seen my fair share of rain, mudslides, earthquakes and even brush fires. What I haven't seen a lot of is snow or hail. I think I saw snow fall in 1988. I rushed outside with a videocamera and caught it for posterity. Then, this weekend, we got some hail. So, posterity, here you are!

Okay, I do understand that many of you who read this experience real weather and, depending on the day, you have my sympathy and/or envy. But this is LA, baby, and when we get white stuff next to the palm trees, well, that's news.

{Photo Credit goes to my daughter, Lauren. I was blown away by how she used the contrast between the purity of the white hail against the compromised green of suburban lawns, bringing the images together in an achingly evocative cry to end the madness of global warming. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it... BZ}
